I'm having issues with converting to DV files in MPEG streamclip and retaining super widescreen aspect ratio, and my google fu is failing me.

I'm on mac OSX 10.9.5, using MPEG Streamclip version 1.9.3b8. I'm trying to clip Captain America The First Avenger which I have as an .mp4 file. The aspect ratio is super widescreen 2.36:1 (1280x542). I'm editing in FCPX. This is the first time I've tried clipping a movie with this aspect ratio.

Usually I use MPEG Streamclip to convert to .dv for editing, but the only options it gives for aspect ratio are 4:3 and 16:9, which obviously are no good. The video gets squished.

Is there a way to preserve the super widescreen aspect ratio to get .dv files? Or will I need to edit in another format? And if so, any recommendations? In the Export as QuickTime window, the dropdown list of compressions is intimidating.

I managed to get MPEG streamclip working under OS 10.10.3 (Yosemite) today.

Step 1 - Download the newest version, under the tab "Free download, Mac OS X beta version"
1.9.3b8 beta for Mac OS X
Released 2012-08-20

http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html

Step 2 - Download, reinstall or restore the required MPEG-2 Playback Component.

While I bought this component many years ago, I no longer have the .dmg file, just the component itself. For many years one could re-download from apple.com, but this is not an option any more. I found a working link, though.

This is what/where I DLed : http://download1129.mediafire.com/rj5n5dfl65dg/fuu2auocdi39dn0/QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg

Which gave me an 887 KB Disk Image, with two components. One for Quicktime 6.3, one for "Quicktime 6.4 and later & Intel Macs"

Recent Macs don't need this component anymore, but MPEG Streamclip *does* need it. There is an installer for this component built into the beta version, but you need to have the .dmg file.

Step 3 - Install the beta of MPEG Streamclip. It will ask you to double-click on the MPEG-2 Component dmg. I chose the one for Intel macs.

Fin.

I was able to set In/Out points and quickly create an mp4 clip. I have not tested every option but MPEG Streamclip seems to be working as expected.

I'm attempting to get my festivids vid into FLV format that is under 50MB and can't seem to accomplish it without the vid looking like crap.

I'm using ffmpegX - which is an application I've only used once (to format for a con vid, so for totally different purpose).

Does anyone have any pointers?
I normally export from FCE to *.mov format and use MPEG Streamclip to make *.mp4 (or *.avi) and don't see a *.flv option in MPEG Streamclip but maybe I'm missing something simple
