I don't know if this is an appropriate place to put this, so please be patient with me. I would like to make fanvids, but I'm currently broke. If anyone knows any free/relatively cheap editing software and Blu-ray/DVD rippers that work for a windows PC, I would greatly appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction.

davinci resolve is free, but it needs a kind of powerful computer, my two year old laptop can't run it, but if you have a graphics card/dedicated graphics it may be fine... dvd shrink is a free (though kind of dated) dvd ripper, i don't know how well it rips newer movies.

i've used Vegas for years, i recently got the pro version from humble bundle for like 20 bucks, so you may want to keep your eye open, but the Movie Studio version is inexpensive and works on lower spec equipment https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/vegas-movie-studio-platinum/

Ha, I am also a broke sometime-vidder. I use VSDC free version and makemkv, also currently free though I haven't tried it with blu-rays.

My editor, Kdenlive, was developed for Linux, but there's been a Windows version for about a year. https://kdenlive.org/download/

I use Magix Movie Edit Pro which has worked really well for me on my 8-year-old PC laptop and only cost $50. In terms of acquiring source, I've always just downloaded it, so I don't use any ripping software at all. Good luck!!

you don't have to download everything, but you have to give them at least 20 bucks to get access to the Vegas pro file

Nonsense. Answering questions about hobbies is fun, and you have not wasted anyone's time.

(I second that you should not bother ripping bluray though. Between the size and the DRM, it's difficult to get usable source. High quality digital files are easier to obtain other ways.)
