[personal profile] brainwane posting in [community profile] vidding
I just started vidding and would love to get to chat with other vidders in the New York City area. Here's an idea:

* Date: Friday, April 24th
* Time: eveningish, 5pm-8pm, come and go whenever
* Place: ground floor cafe of the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria (free admission 4pm-8pm on Fridays), close to the N/Q/R/M trains (directions)

My thinking is, it's low-social-commitment, because if you get there and find you want to chat and have a sandwich or a cup of tea, that option is available to you, but if you find you get cranky or shy or don't have chemistry with other people there, you can go see interesting exhibits about the history of film, TV, and video games. :)

My current plan is that I will go and sit in the museum cafe with a book and a laptop starting at 5pm on Friday the 24th and be there till 8. Maybe I will see some of you there! And if you want an NYC meetup but this particular date doesn't work for you, suggest alternate dates in the comments and maybe we can switch or add!

Oooh, would love to, but unfortunately I'm Shomer Shabbat and can't do anything like that on a Friday evening. If people are available on a weekday evening or Sunday, I'd be interested in participating.

I live in Central Jersey, but I have a car and access to mass transit, so I can get anywhere in the NYC area reasonably easily.

Not sure if I can go, but I will keep you posted!

For future NYC vidder meetups, here's a list of free museums/days: http://www.nycgo.com/articles/free-nyc-museums That way we can spread out both days of the week and locations; non-museum suggestions would also be cool! (IFC center or other film screenings, perhaps?)

Do you want me to x-post this to the vidding comm on lj? I think there are a few NYC vidders who are more active over there.

I might be able to make it, depending on where my housing search is that week (I may be frantically looking at apartments and/or moving in somewhere). But also to consider is that the Met, the Cloisters, the Museum of Natural History, Brooklyn Museum and Brooklyn Botanical Gardens both all pay-what-you-will and their cafes are very nice. I don't think it'd be possible to get actual laptops into any of these places, but for meet-ups, they'd be good.

If you were thinking of a laptop-friendly space, there are a bunch of cafes I can think of in Midtown with big communal spaces and free wifi.
