Vid exporting help?

I'm attempting to get my festivids vid into FLV format that is under 50MB and can't seem to accomplish it without the vid looking like crap.

I'm using ffmpegX - which is an application I've only used once (to format for a con vid, so for totally different purpose).

Does anyone have any pointers?
I normally export from FCE to *.mov format and use MPEG Streamclip to make *.mp4 (or *.avi) and don't see a *.flv option in MPEG Streamclip but maybe I'm missing something simple

Unfortunately, I can't help with the .flv thing - and I'm sorry for the bother! - but just fyi, the site will accept both .avi and .mp4, if you continue to have trouble.

I use MPEG Streamclip to make FLVs and find that it gives me good enough quality for my needs, which are usually importing into Prezi for teaching and giving presentations. I find it in file -> Other Formats -> Flash Video (FLV); the Options tab gives quality options. I have a Mac, and I did at one point have a full version of Flash installed, but I uninstalled it a while back and the converstion in Streamclip still seems to work...

My copy of MPEG Streamclip (1.9.2) doesn't offer FLV, not even after I installed Perian.

Either there's something I'm missing (quite possible!), or your system managed to hang onto a Flash encoder from when you had the full installation?

Huh. I checked and I'm running 1.9.3b8, but it doesn't look like they added flv support in the update to that beta version, so I think you must be right about my system. I can make an flv for you if you like? futuransky @ gmail. But with the deadline being past I assume you found a solution?

I just d'ld and ran 1.9.3b8 -- it does have more YouTube support, and thus assumedly more Flash support -- but no dice.

I'm still looking for a solution for go-live, actually: I used Dropbox to host my proof-of-completion for the mods.

That is a kind offer, thank you, and I may yet take you up on it, depending on how my investigation of other hosting options goes.

OMG it worked. I spent over an hour dinking with it, I totally didn't think it was going to be a go. Especially not with all the doomsaying that VisualHub was on borrowed time under Lion. (For ref, I'm running Mavericks.) VisualHub is no longer supported, and hasn't been for a while.

So that you can do it in less time than I required:
  1. Go here. Download three different files: the main softpedia download, the FFMPEG installer, and the Lion Updater.
  2. Install FFMPEG first. (You'll possibly need to select "open" from the ctrl-click context menu.)
  3. Open VisualHub (again by selecting open from the ctrl-click menu). It'll prolly fuss about needing to download some things. Hit cancel and close.
  4. Open and run the Lion Updater. It will open VisualHub and do some stuff to it, then declare itself done.
  5. Open VisualHub, which should now be behaving nicely.
And that was sufficient to get my copy running.

To make FLVs, select "Flash" from the "To:" menu across the top, then check "raw .flv format."

...which is straightforward enough, but I kept ending up at doomsaying pages, or pages that only had one of the three things, etc.

I haven't yet played with getting my file under 50MB, but there's a quality slider right there, so...

ETA: Under "Advanced" there's a ticky to "Keep each video under [[ ]] MB." I typed in "50", and it brought it in at 49.4! Sweet!

Thank you for finding the initial lead!

Yeah, I'm having trouble with uploading, too. I just left a message for the mods.

You could use eRightSoft's SUPER © to convert. (Scroll all the way down for the link and then scroll all the way down again to access the download link.) [personal profile] rhoboat has a nice tutorial for it.
