I was trying to figure out why vidders were using AO3 for myself and then I remembered reading about vidders whose YT accounts were taken down and how that wiped out all their comments. And I went: doh!
if you use YT as your upload/streaming, you'll probably get comments in both places, but at least the ones on AO3 would stick around in the event of a YT account removal. The other streaming services - vimeo, viddler and blip are not into the social networking aspects like YT - I haven't seen much in the way of comments on vids uploaded there.
but what really sold me - having only place to update links. Such a simple concept - I love it.
