Alas that stress also means need for dentist. I think the filling repair my dentist did last month already broke; it might not be the only bit of my dentistry crumbling under the current tension levels. And going to the dentist is so painful and scary :(

Wimsey Quote Database
The hardest thing about writing Peter Wimsey fanfic is the quotes. Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane have an encyclopedic knowledge of the literature of their era (and the literature that was considered classic/important in that era), and quote it often.
Today I posted on the Gaud Squad Discord that it would be awesome if we had a searchable database of the literature and poetry that they knew or could reasonably be expected to know, searchable by keyword and theme, so that one could look things up easily. And that I would be willing to do the data entry, but had not the technical skills to set it up.
supertailz responded by setting up a Notion instance and is noodling around with the technical aspects of it, so it looks like this is happening!
The easy part is getting the literature that Peter and Harriet quote added--all I have to do is read through the books (no hardship there!) and source the quotations. Although I know there are some annotated versions floating around, and if anyone has a copy of the annotations, that would be lovely.

Some things rise in acclaim, some things fall out of favor. What would be really handy is a curriculum for Eton ca. 1900 and for Oxford ca. 1910, but so far I haven't found anything. Sunshine Revival Post

sunshine_revival's first challenge: "Creative Prompt: Shine a light on your own creativity. Create anything you want (an image, an icon, a story, a poem, or a craft) and share it with your community."
I just shared some necklaces I made a few months back over ateverykindofcraft. I did a lot of beading in the first 13 years after I took it up, but things have been rather start and stop in the last 10. A craft store closeout + a challenge from a relative got me making some new things in the last few months. That probably also contributed to my starting everykindofcraft here, because I saw various people posting wonderful stuff that not many people were seeing, whereas on Pillowfort some general craft communities there are always getting posts.
Hopefully we can get more crafters sharing here!
2) Have been watching a slew of Apple+ shows as our subscription cutoff nears. The miniseries Disclaimer was framed in an interesting way, one which I suspect had a lot more clarity in multimedia than in the book, but perhaps not. It uses multiple narrative voices and POV for the narration, including second person, first person, and some omniscient narrative. This was pretty relevant because of who was being framed (literally) and who actually got to have their voice(s) heard. ( Read more... )
3) Surface is a story told in a much more straightforward manner even though it also involves an unreliable narrator of sorts in that our central character had memory loss and is trying to piece together her past which also involves a parental mystery. ( Read more... )
4) Also saw the movie Wolfs, which is fine but largely a vehicle for us to watch Pitt and Clooney do fun stuff. ( Read more... )
5) Finished The Big Conn and Cowboy Cartel, two documentaries about big crime. I found the former much more interesting, even though I'd heard about the case before. What was probably the most striking about both was the role of the media in precipitating change. ( Read more... )
6) Careme was marketed as the story of the first celebrity chef, who served Napoleon, Tallyrand and others. It was certainly about far more than cooking. ( Read more... )

Technically this was yesterday, but I climbed a hill and had an eagle fly past me. (The hill is the Bodenburg Butte in Palmer, AK.)
I realize the eagle is more like a dot, but if you've tried to take a quick photo of a bird, this is without zoom (I was just trying to snap a fast shot without completely losing the experience of having an eagle flying in front of me) so it is actually very close! After it flew past, I turned around and two teenage guys were standing above me, having just descended from the top and watched it too. "Sick," one of them said in obvious delight, and we nodded at each other.
I'm down in Southcentral doing Mom Things. Mom has been moved out of the rental where she was living since last August, and she was supposed to go home via helicopter today, but the weather was a problem. But that's why I reserved two extra days at the Airbnb beforehand, just in case. Tomorrow we try again! She was very respectful of my space today - I think she recognized that I was planning on having the evening to myself tonight and it didn't happen - and I wrote both fanfic and original fiction, and took a long walk to sort some plot things out in my head. Thursday I go home, and perhaps drive the Denali Highway on my way, if the wildfire smoke isn't too bad.

So much pronoun confusion! But you can't exactly switch to the more appropriately pronouned Broadway version when you're making a vid album. Pronouns aside, we knew this had to be a Buffy/Faith vid right away, and that it should be framed by "Who Are You?" and "This Year's Girl," focused on Faith's resentment when she wakes from her coma and sees how Buffy's life has gone on while she's lost everything. The emphasis on season 4 did mean (a) that we vidded a lot more Riley than anticipated, lol, and also (b) that we left a lot of great season 3 clips on the cutting room floor, though, which is what led to this vid thrown together from the leftovers folder.

DNW clarification for this fandom: I'm fine with referenced past noncon for this prompt, just nothing between requested ships!
Fandom notes: I don’t have strong feelings about seeker trine fanon, empurata outside of IDW (in IDW I like the angst/whump of it) or Soundwave’s exact relationship to his casssettes. Follow your spark.
I am 100% okay with continuity soup for G1, and I like both canon Shattered Glass universes but also tend to like continuity soup Shattered-Glass-As-Generic-Multiverse.
However, for the ships where I specified IDW Optimus and SG IDW Shockwave, I do strongly want IDW—their histories there are a big part of why I want those characters to interact!
Prompts, general:
- The SG Autobots are terrifying, so I’d be very into the SG Decepticons being terrified of the nice Autobots when they meet them!
- I love the id factor of having to rescue the sweet mirrorverse good guy versions of your enemies from the horrifying mirrorverse versions of your friends.
- Also the idea of having to impersonate your evil self (with advice from your not-evil not-enemy kinda-prisoner, who has a much better idea of how your evil self acts)!
- I'm up for super tropey over the top scenarios—fell into the AU, got mistaken for your evil self and received their war prize? Find out that your friends are evil here because you see them torturing your enemy and now you have to save them? That kind of thing.
- It's really fun when Decepticons are scared of the medics to me, and that'd make extra sense if they're really scared of their evil counterparts.
- I'd be into as much whump as you like here as long as it's followed by rescue and/or h/c!

- Okay, how would the whole “reprogrammed to be loyal to G1 Megatron” thing work with encountering an AU version of Megatron?
- I'm super into the slave coding mind control trope, both as whump with an evil "master" and as a justification for slavefic h/c tropes with a good guy in charge.

- So both IDWSG and IDW Shockwave suffered empurata and shadowplay, but the shadowplay had opposite effects—SG Shockwave is still nice, just even more emotional. Did she change her mind about that before finding out William cheated on her—did she find that she liked being a sailor—or was it that after killing him she couldn't return home, or realized she was no longer the person who wanted to?
- I’d also love to see more of her interactions with the captain–in some versions he’s an antagonist to begin with, but by the end he’s 100% on her side and it’s really fun.

Fandom notes: I don’t have strong feelings about seeker trine fanon, empurata outside of IDW (in IDW I like the angst/whump of it) or Soundwave’s exact relationship to his casssettes. Follow your spark.
I am 100% okay with continuity soup for G1, and I like both canon Shattered Glass universes but also tend to like continuity soup Shattered-Glass-As-Generic-Multiverse.
However, for the ships where I specified IDW Optimus and SG IDW Shockwave, I do strongly want IDW—their histories there are a big part of why I want those characters to interact!

- The SG Autobots are terrifying, so I’d be very into the SG Decepticons being terrified of the nice Autobots when they meet them!
- I love the id factor of having to rescue the sweet mirrorverse good guy versions of your enemies from the horrifying mirrorverse versions of your friends.
- Also the idea of having to impersonate your evil self (with advice from your not-evil not-enemy kinda-prisoner, who has a much better idea of how your evil self acts)!
- I'm up for super tropey over the top scenarios—fell into the AU, got mistaken for your evil self and received their war prize? Find out that your friends are evil here because you see them torturing your enemy and now you have to save them? That kind of thing.
- It's really fun when Decepticons are scared of the medics to me, and that'd make extra sense if they're really scared of their evil counterparts.

- I love the song’s progression from a relatively straightforward “young woman crossdresses to follow her lover to war” song to murder ballad to a job offer.
- I’m curious about the captain’s POV on all this.
- I love where the song leaves the protagonist (at least in my favorite versions, with the captain giving her a military command and possibly also her own ship) and I’d like to see more of her post-canon.
- Was her original plan to go home, get married, and return to normal life? Did she change her mind about that before finding out William cheated on her—did she find that she liked being a sailor—or was it that after killing him she couldn't return home, or realized she was no longer the person who wanted to?
- I’d also love to see more of her interactions with the captain–in some versions he’s an antagonist to begin with, but by the end he’s 100% on her side and it’s really fun.
- Artwise: Sarah/Sally looking dashing in a sailor’s uniform or scary with guns, taking aim at her ex, her during that naval battle where her shirt malfunctions, her and the captain sitting down for a conversation, or take any art-suitable tag as a prompt.
