Hi!

I have a Wynonna Earp vid (Willa-centric) that I would like feedback on.

Summary/themes: "you can never really go home again"
Warnings/notes: show typical violence, quick cuts and bright flashes, spoilers for season 1 (particularly the last half), death

Thank you!

Hi all - I'm looking for vid recs for my Vidukon show! The theme is 'Home', so any vids that relate to that would be VERY welcome! :-) More info at my journal here: Dreamwidth / LiveJournal

I’m putting together a vidshow for this year’s Vidukon about revolutions and social change, both large and small scale, and I’m looking for some recs! Anyone have any thoughts on good vids on that theme? I’m particularly interested in less well known or non-Western stories, they can be from real life or from fiction, any genre.

Also I’m actively looking for premieres that fit that bill, so if you have a vid you’d like to make on that theme and it can be finished by May, get in touch!

I'm running a history-themed vidshow for this year's VidUKon, and I'm currently looking for recs!

I'm after any and all vids with historical settings, but I'm especially keen to hear ideas about less popular historical eras, non-Western history and marginalised people in history, since I figure those will probably be harder to track down and I want to have a broad variety of things!

You are very much encouraged to self-rec if you have something you think might fit the bill! :D

Hi all!

I'm running a vidshow on the theme of Tropes at VidUKon this year, and would like your suggestions! Time-loops, bodyswaps, doppelgängers...what are your favourite vids showcasing the glory of tropes and common character archetypes?

Come and tell me at my journal! :-)

Hello! I'm running two vidshows at [community profile] vividcon this year -- Lions and Tigers and Vids, Oh My! (focused on animals) and Game Plan (focused on sports, co-VJing with [personal profile] milly). We are looking for premieres and suggestions for both. Please see my journal post for more information on what we're looking for.

Hi Vidders!

[community profile] escapade_con is currently accepting vid submissions for its songvid show until tomorrow night, 2/16 at 10PM Pacific Time. You can submit premieres, festivids, recent vids, older vids... whatever you'd like! Escapade is a slash-focused con, but not everything submitted to the vidshow is a slash vid, so don't let that discourage you! See more information and instructions on how to submit here.

If you are doing a Year-in-Review or other vidding meme, feel free to drop a link in the comments!

I've found a few on my flist or by searching DW at dreamwidth.org/search but it would be convenient to have them all centrally collected.

Thanks!

I'm doing a vid project that draws on vidding techniques and I wanted to compile a reclist of 'arty' vids - any vids that stood out as partcularly inventive in terms of technique, or maybe a bit more abstract than the usual?

I know that's a bit vague, but it's mostly just for research purposes, to get an idea of the kinds of editing techniques that set vids apart from 'video art' or mainstream films.

So, I'm open to classic vids, youtube vids, creaspace vids, amvs, pretty much anything that you might have seen and thought, wow, that was funky!

Any help much appreciated! The project is three weeks, but I'm hoping to get research done this week.

Thanks!

What tools do you use to gather footage for vidding? How do you rip, convert, contort, and cajole source video into the format your editing program works with? This survey will crowd-source this information. The more people share, the more we can learn from each other. Tools you love, things you tried that weren't worth the time and effort, all your vidding experience is valuable.

We all have our preferences, we always will. There's still room to learn from others, find new things to try, new tools to try.

There's space for DVD ripping software, torrent sites, and more. The opinions entered can be anything from "this is perfect and I use it exclusively" to "tried it, didn't work, never again" and even in between. The aggregate data will include as much or as little personal comments as each person wants.

Thanks in advance for contributing! Feel free to share this link and information with other vidders, anyone interested in sharing.

I'm going to be running a vidshow at this year's Vidukon on the theme of Constructed Realities, and would be very grateful for any recs! I'm thinking along the lines of the following:

-AU vids
-Crossover vids
-Vids for fic
-Vids for books/podcasts with no canon visual source
-Fake trailers that cast actual shows in a whole new light
-Fake trailers for entirely non-existent shows
-Vids that use a lot of manips
-Crack-tastic vids that use the source to tell an entirely different story

…etc. If any vids spring to mind, I'd love to hear about them! Please come by my journal and let me know :-)

Thanks!

Hello, lovely vidders!

Would anyone out there like to take a quick look at a Pacific Rim vid? I am a relative newbie (this is only my third vid, and my first vid made with decent software), so although I'm proud of this one, I'm also constantly looking for improvement. :) Anything you can comment on, from the overall narrative to individual cuts or clip choices that do/don't work for you would be incredibly helpful. I've been staring at this thing for so long that I could really use a second pair of eyes to see the problems that I am missing.

This vid ended up being a love letter to everything I fell for in Pacific Rim... so, mostly Mako. :D Plus Mako & Raleigh, and Mako & Stacker, and JAEGERS. It's just under 4 minutes, set to a Vienna Teng song, and made in Sony Vegas.

Thank you!

[personal profile] beccatoria  and I are going to be running a technical show/panel this VidUKon. In it we're going to be using snippets from vids to illustrate the techniques we're talking about in the panel.

Can you guys think of any vids that would be good ones to use as examples? Since we're using snippets, the whole vid doesn't need to be relevant. But if there was a bit that stuck in your mind as awesome use of colour, or clever use of audio etc - link it here!

Here are the 5 topics we're hoping to cover:

1) Colour
2) Split Screens & Masking
3) Motion
4) Audio

5) Any vids that use on or all of the above in a cool way that we could use in the finishing vid-show

Thanks guys!

An acquaintance of mine  has had a vid of theirs stolen on Youtube. He has asked the uploader ()  to remove the vid multiple times over the past few months, and although this person originally said they made a mistake in uploading it, they refuse to remove the stolen vid.
The vid still has the original vidder's watermark on it, but has been set to a different song.
Since this vid was made in memory of the original vidders sister (whom has passed away), I think this is particularly heinous.

location of original vid: http://peterpanthimbles.net/peterandwendy/tearsinheaven.wmv

location of stolen vid with different song attached: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTzoDqsSLqk

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I'm working on a vid about a person that is not fictional and is currently alive. This is a first for me, my other vids were all fictional. I'm having some moral/ethical wobbly quandaries and would appreciate any feedback/advice/insights any of you wonderful people could provide.

Greetings helpful people!

I'm a novice vidder who's also a kinky grad student studying kink for a thesis in Social Anthropology. My program is hosting a small conference on March 12th and this time I opted to propose an alternative media submission rather than a standard paper. My abstract was accepted, so now I'm working on putting together about 20 minutes of kink-related video (both clips showing BDSM & other contextually kink-connected acts and objects and things that weren't intended by the creators to reference kink but which can be re-read with a kinky lens) to loop on display in the conference's reserved exhibition space. I'm regretting this decision a bit now for being overambitious, as I haven't actually completed a vid on my own before, but oh well.

More about the project )

What I'm looking for help with: technical questions )

Source suggestions: I already have quite a few ideas for songs and video sources I want to use for each of the "movements" listed behind the first cut, but I am more than happy to hear suggestions for scenes (as specific as possible, please--or if it's something you happen to already have clipped and don't mind sharing that would be super fantastic) for any of those themes, or suggestions for other themes or question cards! I'm really impressed with how helpful and considerate people on this community are, and really grateful to have you all here as a sounding board. Thank you!

Hi!  I'm working on a multifandom vid.  For one section I need clips that have women fighting/ otherwise doing violence in a non-stylized way - think Cally Tyrol biting that dude's ear off in Battlestar Galactica, not Kahlan spinning around in a white dress tapping people with knives in Legend of the Seeker.  Unfortunately, most of the sources I have on hand focus on the pretty happy shiny violence, not the ugly bloody brutish violence, which is why I need help.  What sources, preferably shot in 16:9, have a lot of women beating the crap out of people in a non-sexualized way?

oh god I sound like a psychopath. I'm not, I promise.
